Use case · Consumer-advice magazine

One day, one focus feature, four articles.

How a consumer-advice magazine plans, writes and publishes the focus feature “Earning extra in retirement” in a single working day. The workflow runs from the topic meeting in the morning to the CMS in the afternoon and documents all approvals and costs.

About the scenario: The magazine “Geld & Alltag” (“Money & Everyday Life”) is fictional. The workflow shows what the system can do today. The pension figures and the cost figure for a guide come from documented runs. Everything still in progress is collected in the Outlook.

4articles in the focus feature, from guide to checklist
7agents per article, plus the Picture editor
12approvals by the editorial team, three per article
~€3model costs for the entire focus feature

One guide with full research was measured. The other figures are estimates and will be measured in the pilot.

Workflow

From 08:30 to 16:00

Each stage shows what the editorial team does and which agents are working. The diamonds mark approvals by humans; no step continues without them.

  1. 08:30Topic meeting
    Editorial assistant

    The assistant knows the archive

The editor-in-chief discusses the focus feature with the editorial assistant. It knows what the magazine has published on the topic so far and finds the gaps.

Editor-in-chiefWhat have we already done on extra earnings and pensions, and what’s missing for a focus feature?
AssistantTwo articles in the archive: “Minijob in Old Age” (March 2024) and “Extra Earnings with Early Retirement” (May 2022). The second is outdated: since 2023, there has been no additional earnings limit for early old-age pensions. Suggestion for the focus feature:
    • Minijob alongside your pension, with a sample calculation
    • Reduced earning capacity pension (Erwerbsminderungsrente): where limits still apply
    • Pension adjustment 2027, as soon as the press release is out
    • Cut-out checklist

The editor-in-chief adopts the four topics and provides a key message and set facts for each. The outdated 2022 article is flagged for an update.

Set: Since 2023, no additional earnings limits for old-age pensions, including early ones.
Avoid: Pressure, anglicisms, unexplained bureaucratic German.
  2. 09:00Research & briefing
    Agent 1 · Researcher

Dossiers with sources, briefings with safeguard rules

The Researcher creates a dossier for each of the two guides, every piece of information with source and as-of date. From the knowledge folder, it pulls the magazine’s own reader survey as a source. The media kit marked confidential is left out. This produces two briefings with structure, target audience and safeguard rules. These include not mixing up reduced earning capacity pension and old-age pension, not inventing quotes and not presenting planned laws as passed.

    1Approval 1 of 3 · Editor-in-chief

At 10:00, the editor-in-chief approves the first briefing. The second comes back with the note “more focus on the widow’s pension” and is revised twenty minutes later. For the Minijob guide, the editor-in-chief steps in personally: from five headline suggestions by the AI, they pick one and shorten it by hand.

  3. 10:30Text & fact-check
    Agent 2 · WriterAgent 3 · Fact-checkerAgent 4 · Tone of Voice

A text goes back to the Writer

The Writer writes the texts. The Fact-checker checks every statement against the dossier. The first version of the Minijob guide contains a figure that doesn’t appear in the dossier. The Fact-checker returns the text to the Writer before a human sees it. Version 2 passes the check; Tone of Voice then adapts it to the magazine’s voice.

Minijob alongside your pension: what you can earn in 2026

Since 2023, there have been no additional earnings limits for old-age pensions. For the Minijob itself, a limit of €603 per month (as of January 2026) applies.

According to our reader survey, 38 percent of respondents over 63 already earn extra income. Around 40 percent of them work in retail.

  4. 11:00Press release
All seven agents · Researcher without web search

The press release is scheduled at short notice

The Deutsche Rentenversicherung (German Pension Insurance) sends out its release on the pension adjustment. The editorial team feeds it into the system as a source, in parallel with the guides in progress. This time the Researcher does not search the web, which makes the article significantly cheaper and faster to complete. The Fact-checker still checks every figure, now against the press release.

    Source: Press release Deutsche Rentenversicherung
    Web research: off
passed 7 of 7 figures verified in the press release

The checklist is produced in short format with the compact language model and costs only a fraction. For the news item and checklist, too, the editor-in-chief first approves the briefing.

  5. 12:00Format, image, search
    Agent 5 · FormatterOptional · Picture editorAgent 6 · SEO / GEOAgent 7 · Editor-in-chief

Ready for readers, Google and AI search

The Formatter sets subheadings, info boxes and teasers in the CMS’s format. The magazine has added the Picture editor. For the guides, it picks images from the magazine’s own image database; for the checklist, it generates an illustration with AI, labeled as an AI image. SEO / GEO writes titles and meta descriptions and structures the articles so they are found on Google and in answers from AI assistants. Finally, the Editor-in-chief checks everything against the briefing and safeguard rules and delivers its overall verdict.

  6. 13:00Sign-off

Four texts signed off and frozen

The editor-in-chief reads the four articles and signs them off. Every signed-off version is frozen. Every further change creates a new version, with name and timestamp in the log.

  7. 14:30Publication

Into the CMS, without overwriting anything

The system creates the four articles as drafts in the CMS. The final copy editor corrects a teaser there. When the editor-in-chief then approves one last change, the system detects the change in the CMS. It leaves the change intact and reports the conflict.

Nothing overwritten. Please merge in the CMS.

At 16:00, the editor-in-chief approves publication. The focus feature is online.

Result

What the editorial team did that day

Research, writing, review, formatting, illustration and optimization were handled by the agents. The decisions at every relevant point lay with the editorial team.

  • 4topics set in conversation with the assistant, one outdated archive article discovered
  • 1headline adjusted by hand, from five AI suggestions
  • 1briefing sent back with a note, revised twenty minutes later
  • 1unverified figure caught by the Fact-checker before a human saw it
  • 1conflict in the CMS reported without overwriting the change
  • 12approvals granted, each with name and timestamp in the log

Outlook

How the day gets even shorter

All the features described are in use today. The following expansion stages are in progress; the editorial teams in the pilots help set the order.

Planned

Deletion on request

If a reader asks for their name to be removed from an archive article, a new version is created with an entry in the log.

Planned

AI processing in the EU

Briefings, research and texts no longer leave the EU.

Idea

Fact store

The minimum wage from the last dossier is reused until it expires. Follow-up articles become faster and cheaper.
